Stove-top blaze contained after quick response; day punctuated by vehicle crashes and dozens of false alarms
A morning house fire on Rosemont Avenue that firefighters traced to a charred pizza box on a stove top was the day’s most significant emergency response in Frederick. At 8:49 am crews were dispatched to the 1500 block of Rosemont Ave under a Box 1-2 house fire classification. C3 reported to the scene at 8:50 am with a light haze visible on the exterior, and E11 arriving shortly afterward reported an active smoke detector and established that a pizza box on the stove had caught fire. E11 and other units confirmed the stove-top fire had been extinguished and reported no extension beyond the burned cardboard; C3 established command and held E11 and T50 for ventilation while other units were placed back in service.
The Rosemont response was one of many calls that kept area fire and rescue units busy from shortly after midnight through late evening. The day began with a fully involved vehicle fire reported at 12:25 am on I-70 westbound at East Patrick Street, where C15-C was recorded on scene and E331 later reported the blaze extinguished. Overnight and into the early morning, Urbana, Frederick and Brunswick firefighters investigated a string of commercial fire alarms at locations including the 3500 block of Worthington Blvd and the 100 block of Burgess Hill Way; crews repeatedly found normal conditions or faulty detectors and reset systems before leaving each scene.
Traffic incidents accounted for several of the larger multi-unit responses. At noon, an ALS-level vehicle accident on the 9200 block of Gas House Pike brought A339, A179, ALS17, RE171, E331 and EMS902; EMS902 reported two vehicles involved and later M339 transporting a Priority 2 patient to Meritus. The same stretch of Gas House Pike saw another major call in the afternoon: shortly after 2:38 pm BC902 reported a vehicle on its side in a rollover on the 9200 block, with occupants appearing to be out of the vehicle. Command-level radio updates show BC902 managing resources on scene while holding several ALS units and ambulances in service.
Other traffic responses included a 2:32 pm two-vehicle non-urgent crash at S. Jefferson St and US-15 where C3-C reported on scene and A319 obtained a patient refusal, and a late-night BLS crash at 11:59 pm on the 16100 block of Sabillasville Rd where A307 evaluated a patient who declined transport. Crews also checked on two vehicles on the shoulder at I-70 eastbound/I-270 at 8:22 pm; A19 evaluated a patient who refused transport before units cleared.
Utility and roadway hazards were logged during the late morning and early evening. At 11:09 am PE52 reported a service line to a residence down in the roadway on the 200 block of N. Delaware Ave in Brunswick and requested the power company and Fire-Police for traffic control; later, at 6:46 pm BR156 investigated a reported tree down on a power line in the 5300 block of E. Hyatt Rd in Ijamsville and notified the utility company.
Shortly after 11 p.m., a barn fire was reported on the 1200 block of Marker Rd and drew a multi-unit response. The incident was recorded as a barn fire at 11:06 pm with RID and E141 among the units listed on the run log; local and mutual-aid resources are noted in the dispatch record. Throughout the 24-hour period Frederick County apparatus remained active across fires, alarm investigations and traffic incidents as crews confirmed conditions, cleared scenes and returned units to service.
