Two pedestrians and a driver taken to hospitals as crews respond to multiple crashes and alarms across Frederick County
A reported pedestrian struck at W. Patrick Street and Norva Avenue drew emergency crews late Friday morning, with Frederick County first responders and mutual aid units converging on the scene. FredScanner later reported the call at 11:03 a.m.; M38 — who was already in the area — was listed as having called in the incident and began assessing the patient while A37 and PE311 were en route. An update at 11:14 a.m. reported M37 transporting the patient to the hospital.
Traffic incidents bookended the midday emergency. A rollover was reported at N. Market Street and E. Second Street at 6:57 a.m.; R3 arrived on scene and logged two vehicles involved with both on their wheels. A38 later evaluated one patient and, at 7:14 a.m., FredScanner reported A38 transporting one Priority 2 patient to Frederick Health Hospital. In the afternoon, a BLS crash at Himes Avenue and Jefferson Pike at 3:56 p.m. brought A37, E11 and C3 to that scene; A37 was checking occupants and, by 4:00 p.m., C3 was providing blocking while A37 evaluated one patient.
A second pedestrian-struck call was reported at 4:42 p.m. at the 2000 block of Yellow Springs Road near the Goddard School. Units listed on the call included A18, ALS2, E11 and EMS901. An update at 5:08 p.m. indicated A18 transporting the patient to the hospital. Those two separate pedestrian-struck reports, plus the morning rollover, made traffic-related emergency medical responses a prominent thread through the day’s activity.
Beyond crashes and patient transports, crews answered a steady stream of alarms and odor reports across Frederick County. A commercial fire alarm at the 3300 block of Sunset Ridge Drive in Urbana was reported at 6:04 a.m.; TT23 and E231 were on scene by 6:07 a.m. and found a single-story structure with occupants evacuating. By 6:29 a.m., TT23 reported a sprinkler system malfunction and that the business would remain closed until repairs. Other alarm responses included the Frederick County Mental Health Department on the 200 block of S. Jefferson Street at 7:56 a.m., where TT4 reported construction had set off the alarm and the system was reset, and two late-night apartment and townhouse alarms in Ballenger Run and Ballenger Creek where PE311 and other units investigated and reported normal conditions.
Fire and utility-related calls were distributed through the afternoon and evening. A brush fire at the 38100 block of Stevens Road prompted mutual-aid response to Loudoun County with BR285 and E281 listed as responding. E141 reported to a wires-down call on the 1800 block of Pleasant View Road at 2:21 p.m.; updates noted a downed tree across communications lines was moved off the wires, the road became passable and the utility company was notified to verify the wire height. Separately, a vehicle fire reported at US-15 southbound near W. Seventh Street at 5:36 p.m. had PE23 on scene checking a vehicle stopped on the shoulder; PE23 later reported an overheated vehicle and that the owner had contacted a tow company.
Gas-odor investigations were also among the day’s responses. A 1:06 p.m. outside gas leak call was logged on the 900 block of Meadowgreen Drive in Mt. Airy with E152 listed. At 4:57 p.m., a report of a gas odor on the 4700 block of Monrovia Boulevard was upgraded to an inside odor; PE251 was first on scene, and PE252 later performed meter readings inside the residence with nothing found before units returned to service.
