Entrapment Call and EV Vehicle Fire Mark Busy Day for Frederick County Responders
A vehicle accident reported as an entrapment at 2:03 pm at Old Annapolis Road and Detrick Road became the busiest incident of the day for Frederick County emergency crews. Radio traffic shows RE171 arrived on the scene and reported two vehicles involved, with all occupants appearing to be out of their vehicles. Command (C17-C) was established and confirmed there was no entrapment, then requested additional ambulance resources while holding several units for patient evaluation. Later entries show M179 transporting one patient to Meritus and A158 transporting another patient who would rendezvous with PE251 enroute.
Earlier in the morning crews responded to a rollover crash on US 340 westbound near mile marker 3.0 at 5:26 am. PE52 initially reported one patient for evaluation and units were held while crews assessed the scene. A196 later reported their patient did not require EMS, and A197 transported one Priority 3 patient to the hospital.
At 9:20 am firefighters and police crews converged on the 400 block of Sagner Avenue at Frederick County Citizen Services for a well-involved vehicle fire. Frederick Police arrived and requested an ambulance to evaluate the driver; PE23 reported the vehicle was well-involved and later requested a HazMat unit due to the vehicle being an electric vehicle. Subsequent radio traffic shows units requested notification to the Maryland Department of the Environment and, after additional checks and a brief return request for ambulance per FPD, PE23 reported the fire was extinguished and units were clearing the scene.
Responders also handled a range of alarms and odor investigations across the county. At 6:18 pm crews were dispatched to an appliance fire reported in the 9200 block of Ridgefield Circle in Spring Ridge; E331 completed a 360-degree assessment and confirmed the fire was out in an oven, holding units for ventilation of light smoke. About eight minutes later at 6:26 pm crews investigated a reported gas odor inside a home in the 9600 block of Fleetwood Court; BC901 reported an odor after the stove was turned on, E331 secured the gas stove for precautionary measures and interior meter readings were negative.
The day included multiple commercial and residential alarm investigations that turned out to be accidental or false activations. Responding companies checked a Dunkin’ Donuts commercial alarm at 7:43 am and found nothing evident; investigators at Whittier Elementary School at 10:22 am were advised the proper alarm passcode had been received and units were placed back in service. Early-day residential alarms at the 8000 block of Harbor Place and the 8800 block of Indian Springs Road were likewise investigated and reported as accidental or false, with units returning to service.
Throughout the afternoon and evening crews also supported mutual aid requests and handled traffic-related calls ranging from debris and disabled vehicles to a motorcycle crash at Route 40 and Hollow Road in Myersville. Radio updates show EMS and fire units evaluated patients and transported when necessary; the Frederick Scanner feed logged the sequence of dispatches and updates as units were held, placed in service, or cleared.
