Shooting call prompts staged response in Ballenger Creek; multiple traffic crashes, alarms and a transformer fire mark the day
Fire and rescue units staged away from a Ballenger Creek neighborhood on Saturday morning after a reported shooting prompted emergency dispatch to the 6800 block of Acacia Court at 10:22 am. Frederick County units including A319, ALS31, PE311, BC903 and EMS901 were dispatched on Radio 9D; at 10:25 am Frederick Scanner reported responding units staging away from the scene until PD secures the scene. A later verified update at 10:35 am indicated FCSO placed Fire/Rescue units in service.
Alongside that call, crews across Frederick County spent the day responding to accidents and alarms. Traffic incidents ranged from early automatic crash notifications to late-night highway response. At 12:08 am a Vehicle Accident—BLS automatic crash notification was reported on the 11000 block of Baltimore National Pike in Myersville; units WCM692 and E82 were dispatched on Radio 9B and at 12:18 am E82 reported on scene with the vehicle unoccupied, later reporting at 12:21 am that no patient was found and WCM692 was in service while E82 awaited arrival of MSP.
Vehicle crashes continued through the evening. At 4:21 pm crews responded to a check-up after an accident at RT85 and Shockley Drive on Radio 9B where units A319 and PE311 were dispatched; at 4:26 pm PE311 reported on scene with 3-4 vehicles involved and at 4:28 pm A319 was evaluating one patient, with a verified update at 4:35 pm that A319 was transporting one patient to the hospital. Later, at 8:37 pm a Vehicle Accident—BLS was reported on US-15NB at Route 26; units A28, A299, E11, E291 and EMS902 were on the run. EMS902 reported on scene at 8:39 pm checking occupants, and at 8:57 pm A299 was transporting one patient to FHH.
Fire-rescue crews also investigated several alarm activations during the day. At 11:09 am a commercial fire alarm was dispatched to the 100 block of W. South Street in Frederick with units E31 and TT4; E31 reported on the scene at 11:12 am of a four-story multi-family dwelling with nothing evident and at 11:15 am placed TT4 in service while resetting the alarm. In the evening, at 11:00 pm E61 and TW6 responded to a commercial alarm at DePaul Village Apartments on the 100 block of DePaul Street in Emmitsburg; updates at 11:06 pm and 11:20 pm reported a three-story building inspected and a malfunctioning smoke detector located with no hazards present.
Not all calls were alarms or accidents. At 6:02 pm E31 responded on Radio 9C to a transformer fire reported at Chiu Alley and Chapel Alley in Frederick; a verified update at 6:06 pm stated E31 was on the scene confirming the transformer was smoking and that the utility company had been notified. Flooding-condition calls were logged twice during the day, including a 7:53 am report at the 7600 block of Willow Road at Beckleys Motel (Q11) and a 7:03 pm report at the 7200 block of Kehne Road at Frederick Painting Company (E121).
The day’s calls also included service and public-assist responses across downtown Frederick and surrounding communities: a 10:22 am elevator malfunction at the C. Burr Artz Library on 100 block E. Patrick Street (unit R2), a 10:21 am service call on 100 block E. South Street (TT23), and a 12:58 pm service call at the Lidl in Frederick County Square on the 1000 block W. Patrick Street (E11). Several check-ups after accidents and minor parking-lot collisions were handled with units reporting either property-damage-only or patient refusals, and units were repeatedly placed in service as incidents cleared.
