Motorcycle crash on I-270 prompts multi-unit emergency response; county crews also handle gas leaks and downed lines
A motorcycle crash on southbound I-270 near Doctor Perry Road drew a large emergency response and ended with a patient being transported to Suburban Hospital, according to Frederick Scanner dispatch logs. At 3:11 pm crews were dispatched to the scene; by 3:14 pm LCBC612 reported multiple vehicles stopped and that a rider was down. Good Samaritans had stopped to render aid, and by 3:16 pm the responding crew described the rider as a possible Pri. 3 and noted another patient in a vehicle they struck needed evaluation. Command was assumed by C23-B at 3:27 pm, and at 3:42 pm M239 was transporting a Pri. 2 patient to Suburban.
The afternoon included other traffic-related incidents that required evaluation and transport. A checkup after an earlier accident on I-270 southbound at Route 80 in Urbana was dispatched at 4:36 pm; E231 reported one patient for evaluation at 4:44 pm and, later, M319 transported a Pri. 1 patient to Suburban Hospital at 5:17 pm. Separately, crews were called to Liberty Road and Routzahn Way at 2:39 pm for another checkup after an accident; units A249, A28 and E111 were listed as responding.
Emergency crews also addressed two reports of suspected gas inside residences. At 8:47 am units responded to a townhome on the 400 block of Gillespie Drive in the Gambrill View neighborhood. E11 arrived at 8:50 am and began investigating; BC903 established command at 8:51 am and reported Washington Gas on scene. E11 isolated the issue to a malfunctioning stove by 8:54 am, and by 8:57 am E11 and T50 reported negative meter readings while T50 set up ventilation.
A late-night gas-odor call to the 10400 block of Quillback Street in Lake Linganore — Oakdale likewise traced to a faulty stove. Dispatched at 11:40 pm, E152 arrived at 11:46 pm and took meter readings with negative results by 11:51 pm. At 11:59 pm E152 reported the stove had been secured and units were placed back in service.
Utility and weather-related hazards occupied crews through the day. Early this morning responders confirmed a live power line down on a small tree at the 5000 block of Ijamsville Road; E331 went on scene at 12:30 am and notified the utility company. Later, at 7:26 am BR65 reported a large tree blocking the roadway with power and cable lines down on the 16500 block of Annandale Road in Emmitsburg; BR65 notified the utility company and later removed the tree from the roadway while also informing the Frederick County Highway Department that roughly a 40-ft section of guardrail was damaged.
Crews also handled several alarm activations and other interior hazards. A commercial alarm at the 400 block of Tiller Street in Frederick drew E31 and TT4 at 3:58 am; E31 reported nothing evident on arrival and later identified the call as an accidental alarm activation. That pattern repeated at multiple commercial locations during the day, and building checks and ventilation efforts were noted in dispatch updates as units placed systems back in service.
