Mutual-aid crews respond to reported entrapment on Emmitsburg Road as a busy day of crashes, fires and utility hazards unfolds
Crews were dispatched midday to a reported vehicle accident with entrapment on EMMITSBURG RD at BOYLE RD after Adams County requested mutual aid at 12:23 pm. Units listed for the call included A68, E61 and TW6; the dispatch was logged as a mutual-aid response from ADAMS COUNTY. Earlier in the morning, fire and rescue crews checked out a commercial vehicle fire reported at 7:03 am on US-15NB near MOTTER AVE. Units PE23, E11 and BC902 were sent to the scene. Follow-up updates show PE23 located a tractor-trailer stopped on the southbound shoulder near Motter Ave, and BC902 later reported the trailer had lost a tire that was on fire; that tire was extinguished on arrival and the update states no additional fire department services were needed.
Traffic incidents punctuated the afternoon and evening. At 6:00 pm emergency units responded to a reported vehicle accident — rollover — on the 6600 BLOCK LINGANORE RD. Units assigned included A28, ALS2, R3, E331, BC901 and EMS901. Dispatch updates during the response noted that an occupant was out in the front yard, E331 reported a single vehicle off the roadway and later indicated four vehicles were involved with only one appearing occupied and one vehicle leaking fuel. E331 requested Fire-Police for traffic control and an M28 unit transported a patient to Meritus Medical Center, according to the log.
Utility and building issues drew multiple responses in the afternoon. At 3:47 pm crews were dispatched to an electrical hazard inside at the CATOCTIN CREEK PARK & NATURE CENTER on the 2900 BLOCK SUMANTOWN RD; units listed were E201, RE74, R20, EK204 and C5-B. Updates describe crews finding water cascading from a bathroom ceiling with partial ceiling collapse, establishing command and securing the water supply as they checked for additional damage. Later at 5:40 pm E121, E31 and TW1 responded to a reported gas leak inside on the 1400 BLOCK ORANGETIP CT; the follow-ups say crews found negative meter readings and determined the issue was a faulty detector.
Downed lines and damaged poles prompted multiple calls. At 1:49 pm E331 reported an unknown type of line down across four utility poles on the 5900 BLOCK QUINN ORCHARD RD that partially blocked the roadway and requested traffic control, ordering Quinn Orchard Rd to be shut down between Rte. 144 and Ray Smith Rd. At 12:47 pm E121 logged a low-hanging cable line on the 7500 BLOCK RIDGE RD in BRADDOCK HEIGHTS, cleared the obstruction and notified the utility company. Later at 6:56 pm PE23 reported a light pole sheared off at the base at FAIRVIEW AVE and MOTTER AVE and advised that FPD was notified for a property-damage report.
Several smaller incidents recorded across the day included a vehicle fire in the 200 BLOCK ASHFIELD CT at 11:17 am where E291 extinguished a small dash fire; an outside fire investigated at 5:51 am on REICHS FORD RD near TILCO DR; and traffic-related medical responses where riders fell from bicycles in Frederick — a 2:50 pm motorcycle-accident call at the 400 BLOCK S. JEFFERSON ST near Dunkin Donuts that resulted in A18 transporting a Pri. 3 patient to the hospital, and a 3:45 pm vehicle-accident call at N. CARROLL ST and E. CHURCH ST where A37 later transported a Pri. 3 patient. The dispatches, unit lists and follow-up updates were recorded in the day's logs.
