Townhouse blaze prompts box alarm; crews report occupants out and investigators find burned food
Box alarm response to a 4‑story townhouse in the evening followed a day of multiple vehicle crashes and gas‑odor checks across the county

Fire crews answered a Box Alarm to a 4‑story middle‑of‑the‑row townhouse at 8:26 pm on Judicial Way, where responding units reported nothing evident on arrival and confirmed all occupants were out. PE311 — first on scene — later reported crews were investigating burned food on the stove and that there was no smoke or fire; PE311 and E31 were held while other units were placed back in service.
The townhouse response capped a day of repeated emergency calls across Frederick County that kept fire and EMS resources moving from pre‑dawn into the late evening. Early in the morning, two high‑priority traffic incidents required large responses: at 4:52 am, an RT340 westbound crash near Horine Road brought an ALS response with ALS20 checking occupants and PE52 establishing command after locating a vehicle over a guardrail; A209 later obtained a patient refusal and remaining units cleared. At 5:06 am, a reported rollover at New Design Road and Executive Way drew multiple ALS and rescue units; PE311 reported all occupants were out and later transports were made to Meritus Hospital Center for at least two patients.
Throughout the day alarm responses were a steady drumbeat for crews. Residential and commercial alarms included a malfunctioning detector on Pinder Street at 2:58 am that was traced to a faulty smoke detector and reset by PE23 and TT4; a confirmed accidental alarm at a Dixon Road residence at 9:57 am; and a commercial alarm at Autumn Lake nursing facility at 8:19 am that E121 investigated and attributed to burned toast before resetting the system.
Firefighters also investigated several reported gas odors and electrical hazards. At 1:23 pm a gas‑odor report at a two‑story residence on Nightfire Terrace in Lake Linganore brought E331, R15 and command resources; crews performed meter readings, isolated the issue to the furnace and secured the gas supply to the appliance. Later, at 9:25 pm, crews checked a reported odor inside the Roy Rogers at Souder Road in the Brunswick Shopping Center; PE52 and R20 reported negative meter readings and that store management had noticed an odor about 45 minutes earlier but nothing was detected in the preceding 20 minutes.

A downed tree with live wires closed Stone Road after crews arrived at 8:41 pm; E201 reported a large tree and wires across the roadway, notified the utility company and requested Fire‑Police and county highway crews for traffic control and removal. Earlier in the evening, E331 found a burn barrel when investigating an outdoor smoke report in Lake Linganore and confirmed the fire was contained to the barrel. By late night most units on the townhouse Box Alarm and other scenes were staged or released as investigations and scene management continued.

Early morning rollover
Rollover on New Design Road sends patients to Meritus; PE311 reports no entrapment
At 5:06 am crews were dispatched to a reported rollover at New Design Road and Executive Way. PE311 arrived and reported one vehicle off to the right shoulder and that all occupants were out with no entrapment. Additional ambulances were requested; subsequent updates show M318 and M319 transporting priority patients to Meritus Hospital Center and M38 transporting a Priority 2 patient to Meritus. PE311 later requested an additional ALS resource as units coordinated transports.
Crews isolate gas issue to furnace at Lake Linganore home
At 1:23 pm responders were dispatched to a reported gas leak inside a two‑story residence on Nightfire Terrace in Lake Linganore. E331 arrived and reported the occupant was out; R15 conducted a 360‑assessment and crews performed meter readings on the basement and first floor. BC901 assumed command and R15 later reported crews had isolated the issue to the furnace and secured the gas supply to that appliance.
Large tree and downed wires shut Stone Road; utilities and highway crews notified
At 8:41 pm E201 reported a large tree and wires down across Stone Road. The crew notified the power company and requested Fire‑Police for traffic control as well as Frederick County Highway Department for tree removal. By 9:23 pm E201 reported Fire‑Police had Stone Road shut down and that the power company was on scene awaiting county highway crews to begin removal.

City of Frederick Begins Strategic Cultural Planning Process

The City of Frederick is pleased to announce the launch of its Strategic Cultural Planning process and invites the public to participate.
The plan will provide a comprehensive strategic framework for arts and culture-related investments and enable better access to creative expression citywide.
Over the next nine months, the City will be working with Designing Local, a national arts and culture planning firm, to gather data from community stakeholders and inform the forthcoming plan.
Residents and stakeholders are invited to learn more about the process and participate at this stage by completing a brief online survey by visiting frederickmd.gov/culturalplan.
