Crash in Libertytown leads to transport as crews respond to multiple alarms and utility incidents across Frederick County
At 2:15 pm crews were dispatched to the 8700 block of Green Valley Road in Libertytown for a reported vehicle accident classified as Vehicle Accident - ALS. Frederick ECC advised responding units the crash was at Rte. 75 and Jones Road, and that a patient was located to the rear of the residence in the 8700 block of Green Valley Road with Frederick County Sheriff’s Office on scene. Command was established at 2:20 pm when C17 arrived, and E152 later located the vehicle and confirmed there were no other occupants or a fuel leak. At 2:40 pm M179 transported a Pri. 2 patient to Meritus Medical Center.
Less than a half hour later, at 2:42 pm, dispatch put out a Box Alarm for a reported house fire in the 3400 block of Firestone Drive. PE251 reported a burn pile behind the residence and held PE251 while other responding units were placed back in service. PE251 later reported the burn pile was actually in the 3300 block of Lowell Lane and that the homeowner was in the process of extinguishing it; crews advised the homeowner of the current burn ban.
The afternoon also saw a utility emergency on Rte. 75 in Green Valley. A wires-down report at 2:49 pm described a tree down on live wires in the 3000 block of Green Valley Road. BC901 arrived and reported an active fire associated with the downed tree and notified the power company. By 3:03 pm BC901 said the 3000 block of Green Valley Road was shut down in both directions near Greenhill Court and requested FCPS be notified for school bus traffic. PE251 later reported Potomac Edison on scene and at 3:33 pm advised Rte. 75 would remain closed for an extended period while the tree was removed and power lines repaired; a 5:20 pm update noted Potomac Edison had completed repairs and the roadway would reopen shortly.
Throughout the day crews responded to numerous commercial and residential alarm activations that either investigated to normal conditions or traced the activations to accidental or minor causes. At 10:32 am PE311 checked a commercial alarm at the 7300 block of Governors Way at Invitrogen Corporation and found the panel normal after contact with a building representative. At 11:27 am E311 responded to a commercial alarm at Dick’s Sporting Goods in the Francis Scott Key Mall; the building was partially evacuated and by 11:43 am E311 reported no hazards and that the alarm system had been reset.
Other alarm calls included a residential fire alarm at 2:35 pm in Waverley View where units were dispatched to the 700 block of Elevation Road, and at 10:45 pm E61 confirmed a residential alarm at 16200 block Four Points Bridge Road in Emmitsburg was activated by cooking; E61 reported nothing evident and that the alarm was accidental. A commercial fire alarm at 5:56 pm at the Woodspring Suites on Ballenger Center Drive led PE311 to locate burned food in a first-floor room and reset the alarm after ventilation was completed.
Responders also handled isolated incidents that required on-scene checks: at 3:50 pm units were alerted for a possible victim in the water at Carroll Creek Park Stone Bridge and EMS901 reported a Pri. 4 patient and was holding other units; at 4:12 pm crews were dispatched to Fairway Vista Apartments on Riverwalk Place for burned food on a stove, with E31 reporting no extension and holding the unit in service. Collectively, the day’s calls ranged from false and accidental alarms to incidents that required patient transport and multi-agency utility responses, with crews repeatedly reporting normal conditions after investigation.
