Afternoon crashes, evening alarms: crews respond across Frederick County after series of collisions and home incidents

Fire and rescue crews spent much of Thursday responding to a string of traffic collisions and property investigations across Frederick County, beginning with a call that initially reported an entrapment on Foxville Road. At 4:59 pm crews were dispatched to the 5700 block of Foxville Road in Thurmont for a reported vehicle accident with entrapment. R10 arrived at 5:07 pm and reported the crash involved a utility vehicle and a passenger vehicle near the access to the Falls; R10 then advised there was no entrapment. A307 evaluated one patient at 5:09 pm, and later M307 was recorded transporting a Priority 2 patient to Meritus Medical Center at 5:22 pm.

The county’s ambulance and fire units had been active earlier in the day as well. At 4:01 pm a crash at the 4900 block of Cap Stine Road—triggered by an automatic crash notification—brought A209 and R20 to the scene; R20 reported at 4:10 pm that all occupants were out and A209 transported one patient to Frederick Health Hospital at 4:19 pm. Just before the Foxville Road response, at 5:49 pm crews were dispatched to the 7000 block of Hames Court in Ballenger Creek for a reported rollover; EMS901 on scene at 5:52 pm noted a single vehicle overturned and that occupants appeared to be out.

Alongside the traffic incidents, firefighters investigated several reported odors and interior smoke conditions. At 7:42 pm crews responded to the 13700 block of Graham Court in Mount Airy for an odor of smoke inside a residence; E152 reported at 7:53 pm that firefighters had located a burned electrical outlet in the basement and had secured power. Earlier, at 6:46 pm a house on the 200 block of Seventh Avenue in Brunswick was reported struck by lightning; PE52 was on scene and a command was later assumed by C20-B as crews reported a slight haze and an odor and subsequently located a partially melted surge protector believed to be the source. C20-B reported the residence had been ventilated and units were in service when ready.

The late afternoon and evening also saw multiple reports of downed or arcing wires and outside smoke investigations that stretched crews across the county. At 6:40 pm BR75 responded to the 1300 block of Arnoldtown Road and reported a wire down with the utility company notified. E121 and BR145 later checked separate calls where trees were reported leaning against or down on power lines; in one instance E121 advised that a tree was leaning against wires but posed no hazard to motorists, and E141 later reported a tree against power lines at Ballenger Creek Pike and E. Basford Road with no active fire or arcing. Several outside investigations of smoke were dispatched in the 7:00 pm hour, with units checking areas in Keymar and Doubs and finding nothing in the area after searches.
