Evening house fire in Monarch Ridge prompts multi‑unit response; crews also dealt with crashes, leaks and entrapments across Frederick County
Fire crews were kept busy across Frederick County Saturday evening after firefighters responded to a reported house fire in Monarch Ridge that crews said involved visible smoke at the front door and a reported kitchen fire. Units were dispatched to the 700 block of Angelwing Lane at 7:07 pm; E121 reported smoke showing from the front door and requested a Rapid Intervention Dispatch while establishing command. Command was assumed by BC903 at 7:14 pm.
Crews conducted searches and fire‑suppression work over the next 20 minutes. R3 performed a primary search of the second floor at 7:20 pm and reported a negative result at 7:23 pm; E121 later reported the fire extinguished on the first floor and that searches of the first floor and basement were negative. TW1 crews performed ventilation at 7:25 pm, E121 crews exited the structure at 7:28 pm, and E31 performed a secondary search. Personnel removed a dog from the second floor and R3 crews reported rescuing a cat from the first floor; BC903 requested Animal Control. RID units were assigned to the incident.
The house fire followed a day of other notable calls that tested the county’s emergency services. A midafternoon crash on I‑270 northbound near Park Mills Road sent multiple ambulances and fire units to the scene after a three‑vehicle crash was reported at 3:07 pm; A239 arrived at 3:12 pm reporting three vehicles involved and crews checked occupants. E231 requested a third ambulance at 3:19 pm; M319 transported one patient at 3:24 pm, A239 obtained a refusal from a second patient at 3:25 pm, and A239 later transported a Pri. 3 patient at 3:31 pm.
Earlier in the morning, a passerby reported white smoke at the Victor Cullen Center in Sabillasville, prompting a Box Alarm at 10:32 am. Units checked buildings outside the secured area and made contact with facility representatives who reported no fire; FRC24 confirmed the facility reported no incident and later checked the on‑site power building with nothing evident. Frederick ECC characterized that response as a good‑intent call and units cleared by 10:47 am.
Responders also handled a string of smaller but time‑sensitive incidents. At 4:49 pm crews were sent to a motorcycle crash at Bimbo Bakeries on English Muffin Way; E311 arrived at 4:52 pm reporting two subjects sitting in the grass and that motorcycles were upright, and A37 evaluated one patient before M37 transported a Pri. 2 patient at 5:12 pm. At 4:56 pm crews were alerted for a reported gas leak in a food truck at Wormans Mill Clubhouse; E291 reported the food‑truck occupant felt light‑headed, stepped out and later felt better while crews investigated the propane supply and conducted meter readings. A247 evaluated a patient who refused transport.
The day included two separate child entrapment reports: a 9:10 am call in Thurmont where ECC advised responding units that a child had a leg stuck in a chair and at 9:13 am reported the child’s leg was freed; R10 confirmed at 9:14 am that the child’s leg was free and A307 remained on scene to evaluate the patient. Late afternoon crews were also dispatched to Riverview Plaza at 4:42 pm after units reported a child with fingers stuck in a shopping cart, and E31, R3 and A38 were assigned to that incident. Public‑safety radio traffic later included other check‑after‑accident and vehicle‑accident calls across the county, including a BLS activation on North East Street in Frederick at 4:24 pm where PE23 found the scene and placed units back in service.
