Evening rollover on I-270 sends one person to hospital; county crews handle multiple roadside emergencies
A reported rollover on northbound Interstate 270 at Bennett Creek in Urbana drew a multi-unit emergency response at 9:15 p.m. Sunday. E231 found three vehicles on the right shoulder just south of Route 80, and MCA735 transported one Priority 3 patient, classified as non-life-threatening, to the hospital at 9:55 p.m. The call came amid other Sunday roadway incidents in Frederick County, including an earlier rollover dispatch, a passenger-vehicle fire and automatic crash notifications traced to cellphones.
The initial I-270 assignment listed A259, MCA735, ALS31, MCPE735, R3, E231, BC902 and EMS901. E231 reached the scene at 9:27 p.m. and reported the three vehicles on the shoulder. At 9:28 p.m., the response was reduced to MCA735, MCPE735 and E231 while the other units returned to service.
Early Sunday, a separate rollover was reported at 3:25 a.m. on southbound U.S. 15 at South Jefferson Street in Frederick. A19, A38, ALS4, R3, E11, E31, BC902 and EMS901 were assigned. An automatic crash notification at 9:33 a.m. then sent A18, E11 and C1 to the area of Rosemont Avenue and Rocky Springs Road. A18 and C1 were attempting to locate the source at 9:36 a.m.; E11 found a cellphone that had triggered the notification at 9:39 a.m., and the units returned to service.
A vehicle fire on southbound U.S. 15 at Rosemont Avenue prompted a 12:20 p.m. response by PE23, E11 and C1. E11 arrived at 12:21 p.m. and confirmed that a passenger vehicle was well involved in fire. C1 reported the fire extinguished at 12:34 p.m., with the units clearing the scene when ready.
A 4:10 p.m. accident call at Hillcrest Drive and Coats Bridge Place involved a passenger vehicle and a parked car. E11 arrived at 4:14 p.m. and reported that the occupants were out. A38 evaluated one patient, who refused transport, before the units returned to service at 4:27 p.m. At 7:05 p.m., A129 and E121 were sent for an automatic crash notification in the 8500 block of Gambrill Park Road. A129 located a cellphone lying in the roadway at 7:13 p.m. and reported that it had triggered the alert; no fire department services were needed, and the units returned to service.
The evening continued with an 8:57 p.m. accident dispatch at Ball Road and Reels Mill Road. TT23 arrived at 9:04 p.m., found two vehicles involved and began checking on the occupants. A38 evaluated one patient, who refused transport, and the units returned to service at 9:21 p.m.
Later that night, a 10:25 p.m. call at Old Annapolis Road and Liberty Road brought an initial assignment of A179, ALS17, RE171, C17-C and EMS902. C17-C arrived at 10:29 p.m. to find two vehicles, one off the roadway in the yard of a residence, and began checking on the occupants. The unit requested an ALS resource for one patient at 10:34 p.m. At 10:55 p.m., M179 transported a Priority 2 patient, classified as serious but stable, to FHH.
