Crashes on I-70 draw responses near Mt. Airy and Exit 59
Separate crashes drew emergency responses along eastbound and westbound I-70 in Frederick County on Monday: an incident near Bill Moxley Road in the Mt. Airy area at 10:17 a.m. and a multi-vehicle call before Exit 59 at 8:14 p.m. The eastbound incident included a blocked left lane, a vehicle in the median and a patient transport to FHH. On the westbound side, responders found multiple vehicles involved, including one in the woods, and reported no one was trapped. The interstate activity followed a morning sequence of accident dispatches away from I-70, including a hospital transport and calls in which responders found no crash.
The morning sequence began at 7:56 a.m. at Willowdale Drive and Key Parkway, where A18 and E11 were assigned to a reported vehicle accident. E11 reached the location at 8:00 a.m. and checked on the people in the vehicles. At 8:12 a.m., A18 transported one patient to the hospital.
A reported accident at Palladian Way and Bishops Glen Drive in Coventry sent A19 and E11 to the location at 8:23 a.m. A19 advised dispatchers at 8:25 a.m. that no crash had been found; the units went back in service. An automatic crash notification at 9:23 a.m. then sent A19 and E11 to the ramp from Rosemont Avenue to southbound U.S. 15 in Frederick. E11 checked the dispatched location at 9:25 a.m.; nothing was found, and the units returned to service.
Attention shifted to eastbound I-70 in the area of Bill Moxley Road near Mt. Airy at 10:17 a.m. The initial report was a vehicle accident with entrapment, and the left lane was blocked. The assignment included A158, CCM19, ALS17, R15, E152, PE251, CCR1, C15-B, CCD1, BC901 and EMS902.
C15-B reached the scene at 10:23 a.m., reported a vehicle in the median and established command. At 10:24 a.m., command retained A158, ALS17 and R15 on the incident while the other assigned units were released. A158 transported a Priority 3 patient, classified as non-life-threatening, to FHH at 10:45 a.m. Vehicle-related activity continued at 2:30 p.m., when E281 was dispatched on mutual aid to Loudoun County for a reported commercial vehicle fire in the 12600 block of Downey Mill Road.
The evening I-70 call came at 8:14 p.m. near Exit 59 in the Linganore/Ijamsville area, with A339, A38, R15, E331 and E31 assigned to a reported vehicle accident. E331 arrived on I-70 westbound before the exit at 8:18 p.m. and found multiple vehicles involved, with one in the woods. Responders began checking on the people in the vehicles.
At 8:20 p.m., E331 reported that no one in the vehicles was trapped and kept R15 as an extra blocking unit. At 8:21 p.m., A339, E331 and R15 remained on the incident while A38 and E31 returned to service. At 8:51 p.m., A339 and E331 were assigned to a check-up after an accident at the same I-70 westbound and Exit 59 location, where police were on scene.
